Suits

SUITS

In my opinion, this show is the hottest, most creative drama of the decade! And it won't take long to be your favourite too.

To begin with, to complement the fantastic storyline, the casting was spot on! The entire cast is fresh, attractive and each have individual quirks and traits you will instantly love. Even Louis Lit, the office bully, exhibits strong willed and amusing humour that is unlike any other from similar dramas. But the star of the show is Harvey Spector, the impeccably tailored and successfully aggressive lawyer. I adore him. And Mike. And Mike's grandma. And Rachel. And Donna. (Basically everyone).

The show follows Mike Ross, an orphaned, unemployed but incredibly smart young man. Mike had plans to become a lawyer, but it was a short lived dream. He ended up selling the answers to college papers and sitting SATs for students to make cash. When the dean found out he had sold a test to his daughter he was expelled and told he would never be allowed to go to Harvard Law. Flash forward a few years, he lives with his best mate Trevor and smokes weed to pass time. He also finds out unless he can cough up $25,000, his grandma won't be able to stay in her special care facility. Reluctantly, Mike is convinced by Trevor to be the 'hit man' and deliver drugs for a mate which will earn him the money he desperately needs. BUT!!! It was a set up! Mike cleverly escapes the cops using his sharp memory to talk his way out of being caught, and ends up in the Pearson Hardman job interviews, one of the best law firms in New York City! In the interview, Mike impresses Harvey with his expansive knowledge of the law, and convinces Harvey to hire him, even without a Harvard law degree. And he does.

I am completely hooked to Suits! Will Mike date Rachel, the office's hot paralegal?? Will anyone find out he's a fraud? Who will be first to discover his secret?!!! WATCH IT! You will not regret it, I promise.

Bob's Burgers

‘Bob’s Burgers’ is an animated sitcom created by Loren Bouchard that follows the lives of the Belchers, a family who own and manage an unorthodox hamburger restaurant on ‘Ocean Avenue’. Debuting on the 9th of January, 2011, the show details the difficulties of owning a small business in a commercialized district, with Bob’s Burgers falling victim to a fire, a rodent infestation and a fallen telegraph pole within the first week.

The pilot episode, entitled ‘Human Flesh’, introduces us to the both the restaurant and the family, with wife Linda, and three children Tina, Gene and Louise. We soon learn the odd and eccentric nature of the group.

Throughout the episode, owner and father Bob is accused of using human meat in his food products, after his youngest daughter uses the falsified information for ‘show and tell’ at school. This leads to a decrease in popularity, and eventually a riot on behalf of the townspeople.

Finally, test results are received that indicate human remains were not used in the production of burgers as a meat substitute, leading to a mass reconciliation. The show concludes with Bob and his wife sharing an intimate moment a top a Ferris wheel, with the three kids in the carriage behind shouting abuse.

The series’ awkward humor and inappropriate commentary make it quite funny, engaging and popular. In conclusion, I would highly consider continuing to watch the increasingly popular TV show.

That 70's Show

‘That 70's Show’ is an American comedy that successfully ran from August 23rd, 1998 till its conclusion on the 18th of May, 2006. The show follows a group of teenagers living in the fictional town of Point Place, Wisconsin. As a series, it addresses a number of social issues and cultural movements popularized in the 1970's, including sexism, economic recession and drug-culture, thus incorporating a highly vintage or nostalgic vibe.

The pilot episode opens with a retro party where the group, led by Eric Forman, are attempting to smuggle their parents beer into the basement. Following this opening event, we are introduced to the teens as they go about a number of general activities that serve to highlight the diverse nature of interactions, and introduce to the remaining cast members. These activities include going to a concert, breaking parents’ rules and even using marijuana.

The show concludes with the main character Eric sharing an intimate and complicated kiss with neighbor and close friend, Donna.

After watching the episode, I have concluded that the show could possibly be targeted towards a different crowd, particularly adults who lived during the era and could therefore interpret and enjoy the wittingly crafted humor. For myself however, I found it a little distant and obscure.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1990 to 1996. The show stars actor Will Smith as a heavily fictionalized and exaggerated version of himself, who is forced to move in with a pair of wealthy relatives after causing mischief in his old neighborhood in Western Philadelphia. However, this relationship has trials as its own, as Will has a difficult time adjusting to the standards to which the Banks family hold themselves.

The pilot, entitled ‘The Fresh Prince Project’, opens with a catchy tune reminiscent of early 90s hip-hop that gives a short summary or introduction of Will’s dilemma - a basketball match turned fist fight. Following this, the episode follows Will’s move into a new environment, where he meets the house butler, his aunt and uncle, and his three cousins. Of particular focus is a dinner party, where Will again has trouble fitting in to the high society embodied by his family members.

The episode for me was highly engaging and funny, and I would strongly consider continuing the series. As a show, it appeals to a high variety of people, and has a timeless, and classic feel.

Law & Order: SVU

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is an intriguing show leaving the audience in suspense. During the pretentious pilot episode a Serbian war criminal with various aliases is under indictment. He is left brutally stabbed to death with his genitals severed. Detective Stabler and Benson find out he has raped over 60 women and murdered many other people, internationally. They visit the multiple victims and suspects of his vicious crimes who live in New York City until the truth is evidently revealed in a dramatic matter.

The show leaves the audience questioning whether all should get equal justice or if one’s past distinguishes exceptions to controversial laws.

Arrow

ARROW
As a girl who loves a good action film or tv show, but have never really been to into superhero movies, this show definitely impressed! It is able to add a realistic level to the tale of Green Arrow in Starling City.

One of the first things brought to your attention is how attractive Oliver Queen is ;) Definitely a draw card ladies, if nothing else is. But a strong storyline is established quickly, with Ollie being rescued off an island he's been living on for five years. Ollie finds his purpose back in Starling City to kill the wealthy criminals left in a list on his fathers notebook.

I can’t say i was to keen on the dramatic voiceovers, it reminded me too much of Revenge. I also was a little overwhelmed with the multitude of characters introduced which made it a little difficult for me to follow. the humour was also quite dry and I really hope it improves in future episodes, I found myself cringing in awkward phrases a few times.

Even though I’m not familiar with the comics, I think this show is onto something special and I think it’s really worth giving it a go for yourself.

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars

For a teen drama, this show is pretty damn good. I also think it's suitable for a large audience, I even caught my brother enjoying it (not that he would ever admit that). The (Marlene) King - the shows writer, director and producer hits the nail on the head with the perfect combination of drama and mystery.

Set in the small close knit community of Rosewood, the show flashbacks to 1 year prior, where 5 teenage girls are enjoying a sleepover, only to wake in the night to  find the "Queen B" (or A) Ali, has gone missing. Following her disappearance, the girls grow apart and one year on, an anonymous "A" harasses the girls and threatens to expose each of their secrets. The characters introduced so far in this series are refreshing and I like how they aren't a typical teenage clique, each with their own personal struggles and differences.

Not only did I thoroughly enjoy this episode, but I am lured in now to find out who "A" is. What is A's motive? Is it Alison!? Is Alison dead or alive? SO MANY QUESTIONS. I guess I will have to stay tuned and binge watch the entire 6 seasons to find out.
